How to choose an animated caption preset in Premiere Pro (63 ready-made styles)

In short

Subkick Caption opens on a gallery of 63 animated caption presets for Premiere Pro, grouped in 9 families: Classic, Punch, Premium, Retro, Fun, Clean, Neon, Story and Simple. In the panel, click 1 Style, then click a card: the preset applies right away to your captions — fonts, colors, animations, sounds and layout settings. Use Search a preset… and Filters ▾ to narrow the list, ☆ to keep favorites, and ✏️ Customize to adjust the active preset.

Step by step

  1. Open the gallery — In the Subkick Caption panel, click 1 Style in the top bar: the preset gallery opens, with Subkick presets by family and My presets below.

  2. Find a look — Type part of a name in Search a preset…, or open Filters ▾ to show one family, your favorites or only your own presets.

  3. Preview it with your words — Each card plays an animated preview. Once your text is in the project, the cards use your own words (My text).

  4. Apply it — Click the card: the preset applies right away. Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac) brings back the previous one.

  5. Adjust it or keep it — Click ✏️ Customize to change it, then 💾 to keep your version as a preset of your own.

The gallery is the first screen of the 1 Style step. Click 1 Style in the top bar of the panel and you see two sections:

  • Subkick presets: the 63 presets that come with the plugin, grouped by family, each family with its count.
  • My presets: the presets you saved yourself, followed by two special cards, + New and 🎲 Create random.

On first launch, the panel loads Subkick - Classic 1, so your captions already have a look before you choose anything. If you are customizing a preset, clicking 1 Style again brings you back to the gallery.

Why it matters: a preset is a complete caption look — fonts, colors, entrance animations, sounds, layout settings and automatic word styling. Starting from one gives you a finished result in one click, and you only change what you want instead of building everything from scratch.

The 9 preset families

Every Subkick preset name follows the pattern Subkick - Family N (for example Subkick - Punch 3). Each one uses 1 to 4 styles and comes with its own sounds.

Family Presets What it looks like
Classic 7 Bold sans-serif words (Poppins, Montserrat), often with an italic or handwritten font for the key words
Punch 10 Heavy, condensed fonts (Anton, Montserrat Black, Oswald), often in capitals, with zoom or slide entrances
Premium 10 Elegant serif and light fonts (Cormorant Garamond, Playfair Display, Bodoni Moda), mostly soft fades
Retro 8 Vintage display fonts (Bungee, Abril Fatface, Righteous, Limelight)
Fun 10 Playful rounded and handwritten fonts (Pacifico, Fredoka, Chewy, Bangers)
Clean 7 Sober sans-serif fonts (Inter, Manrope, Montserrat), several with a highlighted active word
Neon 4 Glowing letters and blinking entrances (Orbitron, Russo One, Archivo Black)
Story 3 Storytelling fonts (Lora, Oswald, Special Elite), mostly appearing line by line
Simple 4 One style and one animation effect: made for simple mode

The presets work for vertical videos (Reels, Shorts) as well as square and 16:9 sequences — see Vertical, square, 16:9.

How to find a preset: search, filters and sort

The bar above the cards holds Search a preset… (it matches the preset names, so neon or punch 3 works) and the Filters ▾ button. When a filter hides presets, the button reads Filters (n) and a Show all button appears to clear everything.

Row in Filters ▾ Options What it does
Sources Subkick Presets, My Presets, ★ Favorites, My text Shows or hides each section; ★ Favorites keeps only your favorite cards; My text renders the cards with your project’s words (on by default, shown once you have text)
Families All, the 9 families, Other Keeps only the families you click (several at once is fine). Your own presets saved under another name go into Other
Sort A → Z, Recent, Favorites first, Most used Changes the order of the cards
Display Card size slider, 🔇 Hover sounds, 📁 Presets folder, Affiliate program ↗ Bigger or smaller cards; plays each preset’s sounds when you hover its card (off by default); opens the folder where your presets are stored

At rest, the cards play their animation one after another. Hover a card to make it loop.

Tip: click ☆ in the corner of a card to make it a favorite (★). Combined with Favorites first, the looks you use for each client stay at the top of the gallery.

How to apply a preset (and what it changes)

  1. Click the card. The preset applies right away: your captions take its styles, animations, sounds, layout settings (margins, height, spacing, size) and its ⚡ Compo Auto settings.
  2. Your text, its timecodes and the words you customized one by one are not touched.
  3. Changed your mind? Press Ctrl+Z (Mac: Cmd+Z) to get the previous preset back.

Loading a preset never re-cuts your existing blocks. To split your text again with the preset’s Characters per block, use ✂ Re-split in the Text step — see Lines, blocks and timecodes. And when you open 3 Layout after changing style, a window Redo the layout? offers to restyle and re-place every block with the new preset (Redo the layout or No, keep it).

What the preset bar tells you

Above the gallery, the preset bar shows the name of the active preset and its state:

What you read What it means
Preset name + click a preset to apply it A Subkick preset, unchanged
Based on {name} + not saved — 💾 to keep it You changed a Subkick preset: it’s a draft, nothing is written until you click 💾
my preset · saved One of your own presets, up to date
unsaved changes — 💾 One of your own presets with changes not written yet
random preset — 💾 to keep it A preset made by 🎲 Create random

Next to it: ↺ drops the changes of a draft and goes back to the original preset (Ctrl+Z brings the changes back), ✏️ Customize opens the settings of the active preset (the same button sits on the active card), and 💾 saves. How to save and organize your own looks is in Save and reuse your presets.

Switching preset with unsaved changes

If you click another card while the current look has changes, the panel asks first:

  • On a modified Subkick preset: Your changes to “{name}” are not saved, with 💾 Save as…, then switch or Drop my changes and switch.
  • On one of your own presets: You’ve modified “{name}”, with 💾 Save into “{name}”, then switch or Switch without saving.

Either way, per-word customizations (positions, a word’s own style) are kept.

🎲 Create random: a new preset at every roll

The 🎲 Create random card opens the 🎲 Random preset window. Each roll builds a brand-new preset in which every setting changes.

  1. In Family, pick a family or 🎲 Surprise me (any family).
  2. Click 🎲 Another one (or press Space) as many times as you like; the preview plays each result.
  3. Click ✓ Validate and customize (or press Enter): the preset is applied and its settings open. The bar shows random preset — 💾 to keep it until you save it.

Presets on the Free plan: the ✓ mark

On a Free license, some cards carry a ✓: Still usable once the free quota is used up (simple mode). These presets use a single style and a single animation effect, so they keep generating after your first 1,000 words, in simple mode. The four Simple presets are among them; filter Families › Simple to see them together. The ✓ only appears on Free licenses: on Pro and Max, every preset generates with no limit. Details in Free, Pro and Max.

Next step: change the font, colors and effects of a preset in Customize a caption style.

Frequently asked questions

Does Subkick Caption come with caption templates for Premiere Pro?

Yes. Subkick Caption includes 63 animated caption presets in 9 families: Classic, Punch, Premium, Retro, Fun, Clean, Neon, Story and Simple. Click a card in the gallery of the Style step and it applies to your captions right away; every preset can then be customized.

Can I preview a caption preset with my own words before applying it?

Does changing preset erase my captions?

No. Changing preset in Subkick Caption changes the styles, animations, sounds and layout settings, never your text or its timecodes. Per-word customizations are kept, and Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac) brings back the previous preset.

Which Subkick Caption presets still work on the Free plan after the free words?

On a Free license, the cards marked ✓ stay usable in simple mode once your 1,000 free words are used: they have a single style and a single animation effect. The four presets of the Simple family are among them.

How do I find a preset again quickly?

Click ☆ on its card to make it a favorite, then turn on ★ Favorites in Filters ▾, or sort by Favorites first, Recent or Most used. You can also type part of its name in the Search a preset… field.

Can Subkick Caption create a random caption style?
