Subkick Caption settings: every option in ⚙ Settings explained

In short

All Subkick Caption settings are behind the ⚙ gear at the top right of the panel, in the ⚙ Settings tab, sorted into 7 tabs: General, Display, Generation, Presets, Update, Coming soon and Plugin status. The same page holds 📘 Help / Tutorial, the built-in help, and ✉ Contact, to write to us and read our replies. Changes apply right away, and the defaults suit a typical edit: most people only visit the language, the license and the updates.

Where are the settings?

Click ⚙ at the right of the top bar. The page has three tabs at the top:

  • ⚙ Settings — every option of the plugin, in 7 tabs on the left: General, Display, Generation, Presets, Update, Coming soon, Plugin status.
  • 📘 Help / Tutorial — the built-in help.
  • ✉ Contact — write to us and read our replies.

At the bottom of the page, the version number and a badge show your plan (PRO, MAX, Trial or Payment ⚠ — see Tour of the panel). There is no Save button: every change applies right away and is remembered.

General: language, license and reset

Option Where What it does When to use it
Language General › Language Changes the language of the whole panel and of the help. 12 languages. To work in another language than the one picked up from Premiere Pro.
License General › License Shows your plan and email, for example ✓ Active (Pro) — your@email, or a warning if something’s wrong. To check which plan is active, for example right after a payment.
Deactivate on this PC General › License Removes the key from the panel on this computer, after a confirmation. It does not unlink the license on our side. Before lending or selling the computer. To move your key, see below.
🔄 Reset everything (like a fresh install) General › Reset Puts every setting back to default and restores the bundled presets and sounds; the panel reloads. Your license is kept. When the panel looks or behaves oddly after many tweaks and you want a clean start.

To use your key on another computer, don’t deactivate it here: on the new computer, click 💻 Use the plugin on this computer and confirm with the code we email you — step by step in Activate your license key.

Warning: Reset everything can’t be undone. The window Reset everything? asks you to click twice (⚠ Click again to confirm). Tick Also delete my saved presets (keep only the bundled ones) only if you also want your own presets gone.

Display: how the panel looks and how the preview behaves

Option Where What it does When to use it
Theme Display › Appearance Dark (default), Deep black, High contrast, Light gray or Light. Visual comfort.
Accent color Display › Appearance The highlight color of the panel; ↺ goes back to the theme’s color. Readability, or taste.
Interface size Display › Appearance Large, Medium (default) or Compact. Smaller = more information on screen. On a small screen or a narrow panel: Compact.
Checkbox style Display › Appearance Checkbox, Switch (default) or LED dot. Pure preference.
Number style Display › Appearance − / + buttons (default), Draggable value (drag the number sideways, click to type) or Arrow field. If you prefer dragging values, as in Premiere Pro.
Show styles Display › Display Shows the font, size and color on the style cards and word labels. On by default. Off for a plainer panel; placement previews always show the style.
Colors: match the Premiere monitor Display › Display On Mac wide-gamut displays, Premiere Pro shows vivid colors more saturated: this makes the preview match. On by default on Mac. Turn it off on a Mac connected to a standard external monitor, to see standard colors.
Follow playback Display › Display The preview follows the Premiere playhead and highlights the current word while you play or scrub. On by default. Keep it on.
Preview smoothness Display › Display Auto adapts to your computer, Economy spares modest computers, Smooth, and Maximum aims for 60 fps on powerful machines. Economy if the panel feels slow; Maximum on a powerful computer.
Video background quality Display › Display Quality of the video background made by Create background: Low (fast), Medium (default), High (heavier). Applies to the next background you create. Low for long sequences, or when the panel says Background too large.
Alignment guides Display › Display Markers behind the placement previews: No guide, Light guide (default), or one of two guides showing the interface zones of the main vertical-video apps. Use an app guide when you place captions for Reels or Shorts, to keep them clear of buttons and descriptions.

Generation: how captions are built on the timeline

These options are saved with each sequence.

Option Where What it does When to use it
Method Generation The first option (default) puts all your captions in a single sequence (everything inside): lighter and faster. The second creates one sequence per caption. Keep the default unless you need one separate sequence for each caption.
Cut on each cut Generation (single-sequence method only) Razors the captions sequence on the timeline at each caption, so you can move or delete one block like any clip. On by default. Keep it on; turn it off if you want one uncut clip.
Right-to-left writing (Arabic, Hebrew) Generation Off by default: Premiere Pro writes Arabic and Hebrew correctly on its own. When ticked, the plugin joins the Arabic letters itself, with a compatible font (Arial, Tahoma, Geeza Pro, Adobe Arabic). Only if your Arabic letters come out detached from each other after generating.
Last word before the block ends + Min frames Generation Makes the last word of each block appear at least N frames (3 to 10, 6 by default) before the block ends, so viewers have time to see it. Words shift back proportionally only when needed. Keep it on; raise Min frames if last words flash by too fast.

Presets: reset one part, open the folder

Option Where What it does When to use it
Styles · Animations · Sound sets · Word placement Presets › Reset Each button puts one part back to its defaults, leaving the rest untouched. Word placement resets the positions and sizes set on the words. It acts right away. When one part has gone too far and you want to start it over without losing the others.
📁 Open the presets folder Presets › Presets Opens Documents/Subkick Caption/presets. Each preset is a .json file, shared by all versions of the plugin. To back up your presets, share one with a colleague, or add one by hand.

Creating and organizing your own presets: Save and reuse your presets.

Update: check and install a new version

The Update tab shows your Current version and the Version history. 🔄 Check for updates answers You have the latest version, or New version available with a ⬇ Install button. The panel also checks at launch: a red dot on ⚙ and a banner at the top (Update N available — click here to install it) tell you a version is ready.

⬇ Install opens a 4-step guide:

  1. Download the update — ⬇ Download now puts the installer in your Downloads folder.
  2. Close Premiere Pro completely.
  3. Open the downloaded zip and run the installer (install.bat on Windows, the .pkg on macOS).
  4. Reopen Premiere — the plugin is up to date.

Your settings, presets and current texts are kept through the update.

Coming soon and Plugin status

Coming soon lists the features we’re planning. Your feedback helps us prioritize: if something matters to you, tell us through ✉ Contact.

Plugin status checks at a glance that everything is ready to generate:

Line Meaning
✓ Connected to Premiere Pro The panel talks to Premiere Pro normally.
✓ N templates loaded The caption templates are installed (otherwise: Template not found — reinstall the plugin).
✓ N font(s) detected The fonts the panel can use.
✓ N caption(s) imported / ✗ No caption imported Whether the current sequence has text in the panel.

Copy diagnostics copies a technical report (versions, license state, storage) to paste into a message to us. The legal notice sits at the bottom of this tab.

Help / Tutorial: the built-in help

📘 Help / Tutorial holds 12 help pages, from Overview to Generate, grouped by step (1 · Style, 2 · Text, 3 · Layout), plus ⚙ Settings and More. The Overview page ends with 💡 Tips to discover, a carousel of Subkick Caption tips and Premiere Pro tips. The yellow ? in the corner opens the right page for the screen you’re on.

Contact: write to us and read our replies

✉ Contact has two tabs:

  • Inbox — Messages from the Subkick team: our replies and announcements. A yellow dot on ⚙ means a message is waiting; opening ✉ Contact marks it as read.
  • Send — Your e-mail is filled in with your license email (that’s where we reply). Pick a Subject (Bug, Feedback, Feature request, Question, Other), write in Your message…, tick Attach technical diagnostic (helps fix a bug) if something went wrong, and click Send.

Why it matters: the diagnostic tells us your versions and what the panel was doing, without anything else from your computer. It usually spares several back-and-forth emails — we reply to everyone. More fixes in Troubleshooting.
